Joining instructions for Role-play (Assessment 3: Conduct a Career Development Session for an Individual)

PART A: FIND A CLIENT FOR THE ROLE PLAY

For this part, please adhere to the following:
Step 1:  Identify a classmate who can participate in this role-play with you.  You will need to take on the role of the career development expert and the other person will be your ‘client'. After your have completed the role-play as the career development expert, you will switch your role to 'client' and your partner would then be the career development expert. Each of you will have about 10 minutes to play your respective roles.

Step 2:  Each of you (as a ‘client’) would need to complete the ‘Career Planning Form’ template and submit the completed form to the other (Career Development Expert). A copy is available in the Appendix section of your Learner Guide known as Career Development Form. This is actually your Career Planning Template Sample found in Page 70 to 75. A Microsoft Word doc has been sent to you via email.

Step 3:  Collect a copy of the completed form from your client.  You will need to submit their completed form as part of your assessment by pasting on Part A on page 21 of the Assessment Pack  below
1. NAME OF YOUR CLIENT: ____________________________________ .

PART B: PLAN FOR THE ROLE PLAY

Please refer to Learner's Guide Page 55 to 63 (9. Guide for Conducting a Career Development Session) and use the detailed steps to fill up the template in the Assessment Pack.

PART C: CONDUCT THE ROLE PLAY
Using the process that you have prepared in Part B above, you are required to play the role of the career development expert with your partner. After you have finished, you have to switch role to be the 'client'. Each half is expected to take about 10 minutes. The Career Development Expert would use his prepared session plan to conduct the session for his 'Client'. After the switch, the 'Client would conduct the session as the Career Development Expert using his/her own prepared session plan.

PART D: SELF ASSESSMENT
After conducting your career development session, as the career development expert, you are required to complete the self attachment as part of the assessment requirement before submitting by the due date.

All the best!!

  1. I have received some queries and I am sharing my replies here for all:
    My reply is below:
    1. I don't understand what exactly to do in step7. Could you explain it a bit more, please?
    "Step 7:
Assist the client to take a critical look at their current job. Look at the amount of time spent on immediate tasks and critical tasks. The idea is to concentrate on important ones and the urgent
ones which often crop up taking time away from the important ones. Similarly, ask the client to look at their wish list of achievements and see if they can reconfigure the present job."
This means that as a career development expert, you are asking the client to prioritise the important tasks in their current role. This is to enable them to focus on important areas of tasks rather than waste time focussing on not-so-important tasks.

    2. Is self attachment PART D: SELF ASSESSMENT in the assessment pack? If so, should we do on the assessment pack and submit it by week4 or should we submit it in another file on the day we do role-play?
Part D Self-assessment is found in your assessment pack. You have to answer them after your role-play and submit as part of the assessment pack on the due date.

    3. When should we submit the client's form and plan for the role play? I'm wondering if we should submit them when we submit our the assessment pack or we should submit them tomorrow in another file.
When you submit your completed assessment.

  2. Query:
I still confuse whether I need to submit Career Planning Form tomorrow or add this form to the whole assessment and submit next Monday. Moreover, in the assessment 3 - part B, is it the individual part or group part that my group member an I have to do together?
    My answer:
You have to get your partner to complete the Career Planning Form and attach it below "1. NAME OF YOUR CLIENT: ____________________________________" as part of your assessment submission.
For Assessment 3 Part B, each of you have to complete the session plan and use it as a guide for your role-play. This is an individual session between the career development expert and the client.
